Hello!
I think a lot of Gentoo users must be wondering how to enable i18n. For instance, to enable locale support, one needs to use USE="nls" emerge glibc instead of just "emerge glibc". One also needs to download input methods such as kinput2/canna or or USE="freewnn" kinput2 + wnn, one needs to set variables like LC_ALL and XMODIFIERS etc. While some of this stuff is not Gentoo-specific, the USE variables are.
That's why I think the Gentoo forums need a separate forum devoted to i18n, especially documenting stuff like rebuilding glibc with USE="nls" and other peculiarities in enabling i18n for Gentoo. |

wouldn it be better if you wrote a guide and posted it in the Tips Tricks & Docs forum and email it to the gentoo documentation team? _________________ a.k.a port001

Very good idea! i18n, CJK, NLS and UTF-8 locales have always been an issue with lots of support questions in the forums. They usually end up in Desktop Environments, but a documentation effort would be more than welcome. The standard way of feeding docs into the mainstream is not via email, but Gentoo's Bugzilla, https://bugs.gentoo.org. |

So how would I go about this.
I post the documents as bugs? I didn't quite get that last part.
Say I make one doc about USE flags/compiling glibc, one about canna, one about wnn, one about im-ja and one about kinput2... Or something like that...
I would do exactly what with them? |

Post them as bugs. Have a look at the expert reporting procedure. one of the categories there is "docs-user", and that's split into different subcategories later on. |
