Not sure in what part of the forum this needs to be, so forgive me if I'm posting it in the wrong place.
I have a question about GCC. I want to use gcc-3.4.4-r1 but when I emerge it and run gcc-config -l, there is no normal gcc profile available. I can only choose between harderned or vanilla. So I'm wondering, did I do something wrong? Did I forget something? or is it just normal that there is no normal gcc config for 3.4.4-r1? (the same happens with 3.4.6-r1). _________________ Calling atheism a religion, is like calling bald a haircolour.

vanilla is the 'normal' gcc profile. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered

When you upgrade/downgrade gcc to a new minor number (3.4.x) you are replacing the exisiting one and it will be called "vanilla" or "hardened" depending on which profile you have selected. gcc only slots for major numbers (3.x.x). If you were to install gcc-4.x then you would get a new profile (4.x-vanilla and 4.x-hardened along with the 3.x profiles) to choose from. _________________ Gentoo: it's like wiping your ass with silk. |
