K Menu - aMSN shortcut doesn't load? <SOLVED>

I click on the aMSN icon in k menu (portage generated) and it attempts to load amsn. after the amsn icon bounces for a few seconds, nothing happens.

if I type amsn in console, it works fine.

any suggestions on how I can start amsn from k menu?
