Sorry if this is COMPLETELY off the wall, but I just bought a 20x4 HD44780 screen from 411tech and I am having some issues. I wired the screen to the parallel port following multiple different schematics to make sure I did the right thing, and I am pretty sure I did. When I connect the power to my PC, the first and third row light up full like it should, but when I try to use LCDproc, I just get random blocks lighting up and going out and I am not sure why. There are no characters displayed, just random patterns of blocks lighing up.
Is this a bad controller, is the config wrong, or did I wire it wrong?
Here is the config:
[server]
Driver=HD44780
Bind=127.0.0.1
Port=13666
ReportLevel=5
ReportToSyslog=yes
WaitTime=0
User=redbeardmcg
ServerScreen=yes
Foreground=no
Heartbeat=open
InitialHeartbeat=on
Backlight=on
InitialBacklight=on
BacklightBrightness=255
BacklightOffBrightness=0
[input]
[HD44780]
Port=0x378
ConnectionType=8bit
Keypad=no
Backlight=yes
Size=20x4
extended=no
DelayMult=0
DelayBus=false
And a couple blurry pictures showing the random junk on the display

Thanks for the help, sorry this is so random

I'd PM a mod and ask them to move this to Kernel and Hardware. _________________ Nihilism makes me smile. |

Change connection type to "winamp". This helped me. And make sure the parallel cable is not too long (mine is approx. 50 cm). |

I tried 4bit 8bit winamp, pretty much all of them. I sent the pictures to 411tech and they said it was a bad controller, so I'm sending it back. Thanks for the advice |
