Sorry if this is COMPLETELY off the wall, but I just bought a 20x4 HD44780 screen from 411tech and I am having some issues. I wired the screen to the parallel port following multiple different schematics to make sure I did the right thing, and I am pretty sure I did. When I connect the power to my PC, the first and third row light up full like it should, but when I try to use LCDproc, I just get random blocks lighting up and going out and I am not sure why. There are no characters displayed, just random patterns of blocks lighing up.

Is this a bad controller, is the config wrong, or did I wire it wrong?
Here is the config:
[server]
Driver=HD44780
Bind=127.0.0.1
Port=13666
ReportLevel=5
ReportToSyslog=yes
WaitTime=0
User=redbeardmcg
ServerScreen=yes
Foreground=no
Heartbeat=open
InitialHeartbeat=on
Backlight=on
InitialBacklight=on
BacklightBrightness=255
BacklightOffBrightness=0

[input]

[HD44780]
Port=0x378
ConnectionType=8bit
Keypad=no
Backlight=yes
Size=20x4
extended=no
DelayMult=0
DelayBus=false

And a couple blurry pictures showing the random junk on the display

Thanks for the help, sorry this is so random

Ryan

I'd PM a mod and ask them to move this to Kernel and Hardware.

Change connection type to "winamp". This helped me. And make sure the parallel cable is not too long (mine is approx. 50 cm).

I tried 4bit 8bit winamp, pretty much all of them. I sent the pictures to 411tech and they said it was a bad controller, so I'm sending it back. Thanks for the advice
