no connection to the AP

I've got a problem with my wireless LAN: it seems my wireless card (intel 3945 chip) cannot connect to the AP (netgear dg834g) when running under linux (with windows everything works fine).

"iwlist scan" detects the network, but I cannot get a working connection.

even after configuring everything with iwconfig the output of "iwconfig eth1" gives "unassociated" instead of the protocol (that should be 802.11g)

any suggestion?
