Hello, I hope this is in the right place here.

I fully emerged KDM and fluxbox, and to do this I had to emerge world about 3 different times. Now that I try to login to my system (directly after bootup) I get the user login screen, then after I put the usrid in, I get the following messages:

configuration error - unknown item 'FAILLOG_ENAB' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'LASTLOG_ENAB' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'MOTD_FILE' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'FTMP_FILE' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'ENV_ROOTPATH' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'PASS_MIN_LEN' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'CHFN_AUTH' (notify administrator)

it seems to me like it has to be a cnf file(s) someplace, but I don't want to start hacking up my cfg files to try to find these.

I have searched. I usually DO search before posting. when I search for login problems I get stuff for NVidia, E17, etc. So tell me, how does NVidia coorelate with login problems? Not trying to be a JO just making a point that I do search and I get more non-related stuff than help.

yes, the seach function on this forum sucks. always start off by searching for the error message you receive as it appears, then modify it. a search for "unknown item 'FAILLOG_ENAB' (notify administrator)" came up with the answer in this case. if that yields nothing, go for the error message and append "gentoo" in google. unless the gods really hate you, youll get at least 1 or 2 hits.
