The power went out, and I am trying to reboot my desktop
It has failed to boot
On the screen is (hand-typed, so probably errors):

I can see no problems with mounting the file system or anything like that (ls -l shows writable, mount lists the / as rw)
I am completely lost

Try booting a livecd and run a filesystem check (with the force option) on all of your filesystems. Then see if it will boot properly. If it still doesn't work, take a look at the file and directory permissions on /var/lib/* to see if maybe they were screwed up by the power failure. _________________

In the liveCD, I am able to mount, read, and write to the filesystem
The check of /dev/sda3 (mounted at /) found 2 errors:
bad_leaf: block XXXXXXX, items X and X: The wrong order of items
It suggests running with "--rebuild-tree"
How dangerous is this? (I remember once it dumped a whole lot of stuff into lost+found)
EDIT:
Figure it can't be worse than not booting at all, going for it
Plus, I have some of my data backed up

After running the fsck, the problem remains
