grub> quit

Reboot with the liveCD per the online documentation and try manually installing grub

Code:
# grub
Probing devices to guess BIOS drives. This may take a long time.

grub> root (hd0,0)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83

grub> setup (hd0)
 Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... yes
 Checking if "/boot/grub/stage2" exists... yes
 Checking if "/boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5" exists... yes
Running "embed /boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5 (hd0)"...  16 sectors are embedded.
succeeded
 Running "install /boot/grub/stage1 (hd0) (hd0)1+16 p (hd0,0)/boot/grub/stage2 /boot/
grub/menu.lst"... succeeded
Done.

grub> quit

if I were you I would type 'top' at the command line to see what is doing anything on your computer. it could be that the process is not going to continue normally and you may have to pick up where it left off.

that's why I usually do manual installs - I just don't trust the autoinstall method to do things properly. at least If I f*ck it up myself I know what I did - we don't know where the autoinstaller was!

if top shows the installer program as actively doing stuff, give it longer. if not, you may as well interrupt it because it's not making any progress anyway. if you do have to interrupt it, I would try to boot from the new install if I were you. It looks like grub got installed, so I would imagine you also have a base system and kernel and you may as well try to fix the rest of the problems manually. if you can't boot the system, you'll have to boot from the CD again. then you can go in and start fixing things.

post your results!

It is the second time that it freezes... Grub is installed... I think that it will work!

I need the only one thing... how to install X with working gnome(of it is not yet installed)
Then I can pose questions here to set it up manually :D

warior: You got along further than i did on the GLI, hah. i cant even get passed the preinstall packages, it hangs, on the earlier distro of 2006. but i think i heard that theres a new release? i may be dated, but i just recently used the livecd, because i wanted to try install without a net connection, and i think thats why it stalls, i think ill go back to the last version. shucks.
