I have set myself the task of getting this right. I have had some luck searching the forums over the last couple of days. I have enabled DRI, solving the permission problems with Mode 0666 in the DRI section of xorg.conf, and boosted my Matrox G450 all the way up (!) to 2x with the AGPMode option.

So now.

glxgears used to run (very slowly) using indirect rendering. Now, glxgears and anything else which uses OpenGLX loads, but freezes after about one second, taking the desktop with it. I have to hardware reboot to get back in control.

glxinfo says:

From what I have read, the libGL warnings at the top are either important or they are not. 8O Anone know for sure?

My xorg.conf seems brief in relation to some I have seen on the forums. Am I missing anything critical?

I have no (related) modules loading. AGP support, mga driver, etc, are all compiled into the kernel (2.6.16). Are there any of them which must be loaded as external modules instead?

Well, I can't think of anything else to add atm. If there is any additional informatin which would be useful, please let me know.

I would appreciate any thoughts...

It could be that you have to write:

Code:

Section "DRI"

because xorg.conf is case-sensitive.

Thanks for the reply!

I wondered about that. Gave it a shot, and I think it did make some difference - this time, glxgears got as far as giving me the libGL warnings at the prompt (I don't think it did before), ran like mad for about a second, and then - locked the whole shebang up like a stone again.

To quote Larry Fine, "...step by step - inch by inch...!" :D
