Hello,

I am trying to install a 4th gigabyte of ram. Everything works okay with 3 gigabytes, but when I install the 4th gigabyte the system reports at boot the following error

Quote:

Kernel panic - not syncing: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel

I am not sure which option I should try to pass. Has anyone else had this problem?

I took a look in the forum and found https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-472581-highlight-syncing+init.html
but he is talking about a ram disk.

Is that what I need to set up? A ram disk?

Or do I need to reconfigure the kernel in some way?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

You probably need the 64GB highmem instead of 4GB for your kernel config.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am using 2.6.15-r1 gentoo sources. Using menuconfig, where would you find the option you mentioned? I am using a dual core AMD 64 if that makes any difference.

Thanks again.

I don't have that option under Processor type and features. Perhaps I need to upgrade to a more recent kernel.
