desktop is unreadable

when i boot the gento live cd all seems fine untill it reaches the desktop. the screen is broken up into bars and and messd up horizantay i see about four of each icon /objeck in the desktop and text is tto blurred to read. i am unable to install gentoo.

i am useing a permedia II graphics card
a Nvidia Tnt2 I tried had the same problum
my display is a Acer 34T
