|
|
i had to run revdep rebuild and it rebuilt all packages. successfully.
now i am not able to login as root or use in console itself
i tried updating passwds for root and user.
it boota up to login prompt but on typing root it waits for sometime and returns to localhost login:
i tried chmod 777 /root and /home/ramaswamy
no change.
what else can be wrong? _________________ reach out a little bit more to catch it (DON'T BELIEVE the advocate part under my user name)

Have you tried chrooting in from the livecd and using passwd then? your post is a little ambiguous as to what exactly you did. _________________ The Geek formerly known as -Freestyling-

i dont see the pam-login or shadow installed.
i tried to emerge pam-login it says shadow is blocking pam-login.
i tried to emerge --unmerge shadows
it cannot find any shadow to unmerge.
i am just not able to emerge or unmerge shadow or pam-login.
its not alowing me to login _________________ reach out a little bit more to catch it (DON'T BELIEVE the advocate part under my user name) |

You need to try the opposite.
Remove pam-login & install shadow:
Code: |
# emerge -C pam-login
# emerge -Dav shadow
|
Shadow replaces pam-login.

yes it emerged shadow-4.0.6 and now i am able to login to system.
kde is not starting.
i am sent to twm only.
kdm shows number of login names like ntp adm user root etc.
although kde is still there in the session list twm only start irrespective of what i select there.
in the xterm startkde works .it has become round about way to start kde.
what is to be done
emerge kdm again? or how to reconfigure kdmrc which has gone to someplace in /var _________________ reach out a little bit more to catch it (DON'T BELIEVE the advocate part under my user name) |
