Nvidia issues

I just finished installing Gentoo on my Asus z92km and started installing X when I hit some difficulties. I found the Nvidia Guide and followed it as much as I could, but wasn't sure how to go back and remove kernel nvidia framebuffer and riva support. At this point, when I start X, I get a black screen that doesn't go away untill restart. (ctrl-alt-backspace doesn't seem to work.) Do I need to start over from kernel configuration, is there an easy way to recompile the kernel, or can I just change that support in situ? (I'm fairly sure that the framebuffer and riva support are not modules.)

"cd /usr/src/linux ; make menuinstall" and remove those options (under Device Drivers->Graphics support) then rebuild your kernel.

Does this automatically load the options I already selected the first time through? These don't look like the ones I selected...

It should take the .config from your installation (unless you've downloaded a newer kernel source since then) and just plop all those values in. You might go through to make sure everything looks right though...

well, I'm making now, but it didn't show Nvidia framebuffer or riva support. We'll see if this was the problem or not.
