I just finished installing Gentoo on my Asus z92km and started installing X when I hit some difficulties. I found the Nvidia Guide and followed it as much as I could, but wasn't sure how to go back and remove kernel nvidia framebuffer and riva support. At this point, when I start X, I get a black screen that doesn't go away untill restart. (ctrl-alt-backspace doesn't seem to work.) Do I need to start over from kernel configuration, is there an easy way to recompile the kernel, or can I just change that support in situ? (I'm fairly sure that the framebuffer and riva support are not modules.) |

"cd /usr/src/linux ; make menuinstall" and remove those options (under Device Drivers->Graphics support) then rebuild your kernel. |

Does this automatically load the options I already selected the first time through? These don't look like the ones I selected... |

It should take the .config from your installation (unless you've downloaded a newer kernel source since then) and just plop all those values in. You might go through to make sure everything looks right though... |

well, I'm making now, but it didn't show Nvidia framebuffer or riva support. We'll see if this was the problem or not. |
