Hi, I installed the new xorg this evening and ran into trouble. I followed the migration guide, reemerged nvidia-kernel and *-glx and did the eselect opengl set nvidia thing. When I start X my I see only black screen (and a carret) - i can only restart with ctrl+alt+del then. When I look at the xorg log file I see following error: ... (II) Loading extension NV-GLX / (II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA 3D Acceleration Architecture Initialized / followed by a list of "Symbol" ... "from module /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.o is unresolved!". I am sorry that I can not post the whole log file since I can't copy and paste at the moment. Please can anyone help me ? Btw. I am using nvidia-kernel/glx-1.0.6629-r5 and have a GeForce FX5200 video card. Please help - I am only seeing black and white at the moment ;) Thanks in advance - Christian

Try using nvidia-kernel/glx 1.0.8762. I vaguely remember a note somewhere about incompatability with older nvidia drivers...

I have upgraded to media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.8762 (also nvidia-glx) and I was able to start X. But this seemed too easy. No everything is very slow. I wonder if the right glx is loaded. the xorg log fie says

(II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "1280x1024"
(II) Loading extension NV-GLX
(II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA 3D Acceleration Architecture Initialized
(II) NVIDIA(0): Using the NVIDIA 2D acceleration architecture
(==) NVIDIA(0): Backing store disabled
(==) NVIDIA(0): Silken mouse enabled
(II) Loading extension NV-CONTROL
(==) RandR enabled

When I run glxgears it is damn slow.

glxinfo gives me

glxinfo
name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
server glx version string: 1.4
