Hi

I want to configure a kernel to suit multiple boxes.
They are all dedicated to have the same use, however have very different hardware.

One has a Pentium 4 Processor, the other one has a Pentium(not4) M.
Which Processor Family should I select?
Does the decision to have two different Pentium processors supported require having the "Generic x86 support" flag set?

p3 would probably suit your needs if you really had to make a choice.

Well, I guess I have to make a choice.
It's not intended to enable multiple pocessor families.

Do you think I should set the generic X86_GENERIC Flag?

yeah, you should select generic, and compile for P3 or even P2.
I've found that most newer targets (p4, athlon, even p3) do not work on older CPUs - I tried my tualatin-P3 tuned kernel on a mendocino P2-celeron and it wouldn't boot... I was quite shocked...

Most of my "generic" kernels are compiled PPro/P2 now, since I don't have many more Pentium Classic machines anymore... and this will boot on my athlons, p4s, p3s, Pentium-Ms, Pentium Pros, and P2s.
