|
|
Starcraft works unbearably slow, and I think I might know how to help it.
"What works
Everything. The performance is much better in 16 bit colors."
1. How can I make it run in 16 bit colour while keeping my system in 24 bit colour?
2. How can I run Starcraft in windowed mode? (please don't answer this before #1) |

Even though it may help performance, it's not the reason its slow..
I used to be able to fix this with "nice -n 20 wine.." but after 0.9.14.. that doesnt work.. so I would like a solution for 0.9.14+ as well |

Code: | Linux 2.6.16-beyond i686 | lol ^ that
beyond has CK patches, so thats what could be causing your problems.. but i recommend you stay with ck cause its better than vanilla (usually) |

I've changed to vanilla. I can't say the game got faster, but it's playable.
Note: I said PLAYABLE and not ACCEPTABLE, the game is still quite slow and I'm still open to solutions. |

use vanilla (i now use vanilla with suspend2 patches).. and run the game like this:
"nice -n 20 wine /path/to/starcraft.exe"
dont use cedega, it runs the game too slow |

Works fine here in Wine 0.9.13
but in Wine 0.9.16 ddraw is working trought d3d this makes StarCraft working lot faster if running in 16 or 24 bit X
because bitdeth conversions are made in graphic card however this feature require working opengl support. |

Same problem here, although I am running on an old computer. Above solutions don't help. _________________ Calling atheism a religion, is like calling bald a haircolour. |
