Ok, I don't really know much about this, so don't get all flamed up.
Could the performance of Gentoo be more impacted by the fact that I'm using a Celeron as compared to Windows or binary distros?
I've noticed some applications run fine during compilation, and some will barely move. For the applications that are affected more seriously, would using a non-Celeron computer speed them up or reduce the slowdown?
NOTE: I'm not even sure Celeron affects compilation speed, but it does seem logical. I wouldn't mind someone explaining the situation in the case that my hypothesis is wrong. |

Moved from Desktop Environments to Other Things Gentoo.
The speed of the CPU is very influential in the speed of installing and running programs. Simply stating that you have a celeron is not enough as there are different versions. Please post 'cat /proc/cpuinfo' if you are concerned that your system is not running as it should. |

Maybe you have a low memory problem.
In my Athlon 800MHz with 256MB RAM I noticed low perfomance problems with openoffice during emerging KDE.
What I did?
I stopped the emerge and resumed it during the night |
