Posted: Tue Apr 15, 2003 4:37 am Post subject: sparc64 Install: can't get a make.profile, can't emerge sync |
|
|
I'm at this stage of the install:
Code: |
CHOST="sparc-unknown-linux-gnu"
CFLAGS="-mcpu=v8 -mtune=v9 -O2 -pipe"
CXXFLAGS="-O3 -pipe"
Note: For /etc/make.conf change : SYNC="rsync://cvs.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" to SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage"
Code listing 4.4
# mount -o bind /proc proc
# chroot /mnt/gentoo bin/bash
# env-update
# source /etc/profile
# emerge rsync
# rm etc/make.profile
|
I have a question and a problem.
Question - is the CHOST supposed to literally say "sparc-unknown-linux-gnu" or should it be something like "sparc-sparc64-linux-gnu"
Problem:
I have a link for make.profile as described in the install doc. I've tried removing it as the directions state, and I've tried not removing it. But, there is nothing in that file. The link seems to point to ../usr/portage/profiles... but I don't have that profiles subdirectory on the system.
I also get an error Code: | !!! Invalid Token (not "=") CFLAGS | when I run the env-update immediately after Code: | chroot /mnt/gentoo bin/bash | as listed above.
The documentation for the sparc install is unfortunately nowhere near as good as the x86 install.
Hardware:
Ultra10, IDE 9GB drive, PGX or PGX24 video card (not sure yet which), 512MB RAM, 333Mhz single proc.
Started with a Stage 3 system. (Since this mainly going to be for postfix and squirrelmail, I didn't see a point in spending a lot of time in optimization).
Help!!
Thanks!

CHOST="sparc64-unknown-linux-gnu"
if you're on a 64-bit chip. _________________ ^<^>^<^>^

The profiles directory will be there when you unpack the stage3 files.
If you are using 1.1a I would suggest downloading the 1.4 test iso from #gentoo-sparc and using that instead. _________________ Meh. |

That sounds like a great idea.. the 1.1a has been a far less than spectacular experience.
But, where do I get it? I looked at the mirror sites, and I couldn't locate a 1.4 for sparc.
Thanks,

I found the 1.4 test ISO at www.gentoo.org/~manson, and I tried that. It had a number of error when trying to boot up, and it would never come up completely.
I'm desperate for some help on this
I even d/l'd and tried Debian.. but it had it's own set of problems.
Thanks for any help at all!!
