Hey all. I know that this is in another posting, but the solution found did not fix my problem.
Here's the deal:
I have amarok 1.4.1-r1 installed, and xine-lib-1.1.2_pre20060328-r9
When I open amarok, the error: Xine was unable to initialize any audio drivers appears
No other engines but the xine engine are available for me to choose,
I have tried reemerging xine-lib and amarok, as well as deleting %home%/.kde2.5/share/apps/amarok
Also, I emerged the newest stable version (1.3.8) and that gave me the same problem.
I do have ALSA enables in my kernel, tho at one point, I disabled it and emerged alsa-drivers. Still didn't work.
I'm a little bit of a newbie w/ linux (this is the first box i've gotten working, made a few previous attempts), so any help would be greatly appreciated. _________________ This signature intentionally left blank

Could you post your USE flags for both amarok and xine-lib. |

Do you get any sound if you play a file with xine itself? |

Yeah, xine can play sound files. I will post the use flags when I get home (I'm at work).
EDIT:
My use flags in /etc/make.conf are as follows (I don't have any package specific flags in packages.use):
Code: | USE="3dfx 3dnow aac alsa arts avi bcmath bindist cdr cups divx4linux dvd dvdr dvdread emacs erandom esd flash ftp gif gnome gtk
gtk2 gimpprint ipod kde jpeg mad matroska mp3 mpeg multilib musicbrainz nvidia oggvorbis opengl pdflib php png qt quicktime real samba
scanner spell theora tiff usb videos win32codecs wxwindows X xanim Xaw3d xine xml xml2 xmms xvid amd64 -motif"
|
Also, I have an AMD64 arch, as that may make a difference _________________ This signature intentionally left blank |

**SOLVED**
wow, i found out what it was. and I feel like a moron.
I never actually configured alsa, nor did I build in my audio driver in the kernel. I just enabled alsa.
The "noob" under my name is a very true statement.
This link proved CRAZY helpful:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml
All I did was build in support for my card and then do alsaconfig. A quick reboot later, and I'm listening to amarok. _________________ This signature intentionally left blank |
