Question regarding openoffice 1.0

I attempted to compile openoffice and I was at the point where it had taken up approximately 1.3Gigs of harddrive space and had been compiling for around 5 hours on a system running on an Athlon XP 1600 with 512Megs Ram.

Is this normal for the compilation of openoffice?

OpenOffice can take many gigabytes of hard drive space and many hours of CPU time, even on fast machines. Give it a day or two and see if it's still going.
