emerged quake3 today and then copied over the missionpack files from my team arena cd. Made sure they were owned by root:games and did a chmod 777 on them. Copied over pak0.pk3 and pak1.pk3 from the team arena cd into /usr/games/lib/quake3/missionpack but quake3 doesnt recognize that team arena is avalaible as a mod.

Why not just Code: | USE="cdinstall" emerge quake3-teamarena |
Looking at the ebuild it seems to just copy the files from the Quake III TeamArena CD to the proper location.
Are you sure that is the right directory location? I thought the pak files went in ${GAMES_DATADIR}"/quake3/missionpack
Edit: Corrected reference to wrong CD and wrong directory. (missionpack not baseq3)

used cd-install for arena, but wanted to add team arena, I've seached around on google and it said to just place pak0.pk3 in missionpack and quake should pick it up as an expansion... pretty sure that's what I've done in the past as well but for some reason it doesnt notice it this time. |

Ahh, Team arena, never even noticed that part, no wonder I was confused.
You mentioned in the first post that you copied the files into /usr/games/lib/quake3/missionpack, I haven't had Q3 installed for awhile, but I thought it installed into /opt?
Edit: Try touching the missionpack directory also.
Edit: If you star it from the command line is there an info about team arena? errors?

The files should be chmod 640. 777 is the worst security. |

I'm going to try switching to the binary version from ID
EDIT: Switching to the binary version fixed it. if only punkbuster was opensource... althought that would kinda... defeat... the protection. |
