|

Hi,
i have some troubles with rules for my little two box network.
I am typing this on a tv, as this is the only x desktop with internet connection at the moment, so please be patient if i miss a spelling error
I have two boxes, one with a two nics, eth1 connectec to a adsl modem, eth0 connected via crossover patchcable to the second machine.
The router will be running 24/7, so i want to run aMule/Bittorrent on this machine. Additionaly I will run a MythTV setup on this machine.
the second machine I want to use for working and gaming, and for administrative tasks for the router, as i dont like reading on a TV Therefore I need a SSH connection with the ability to reroute X applications to my workstation.
i read the Router Howto, the IPtables for Newbies Guide, the gentoo wiki, tried the complete last week (at least every free minute as i have to work sometimes ) to get this setup working.
But I never had internet connection at my workstation (NAT and MASQUERADE did neverwork) and constantly loose ssh connection. this is really annoying.
I built any option into the kernel that is in the iptables tree, except the Experimental marked ones.
even the plain scripts from the Howtos did not work for masquerading.
Anybody can help me with this?
Thanks in advance,
fangorn

I just thoroughly checked the syntax, started from scratch with minimal configuration and added one rule after the other. Some rules in the Router Howtos did not apply to my case, some did not work, dont ask me why. Firstly I forgot a option in the kernel needed for routing, ...
Just keep cool and "take the time". _________________ Video Encoding scripts collection | Project page |
