Openoffice won't install

Hello,

I'm trying to build Openoffice on my iBook G4. The first version I tried was openoffice-2.0.1-r1. It compiled and quit with an error during the install part. Here is the part of the logfile:

The openoffice ebuild is very fragile when it comes to optimisation
flags. The only way I got to install the last 2 versions was to
put CFLAGS="" and CXXFLAGS="". It is not completly unoptimized
as there is some optimisation set up during the build.
But the registration failure is a known over-optimisation problem
I am afraid. If someone finds a safe CFLAGS setting for openoffice
I am interested.

I also read that phython might be the problem (overoptimization). I compiled it with reduced CFLAGS, but no success.

Another issue might be the utilization of "-mcpu=G4". Maybe that should be changed to "-mcpu=7450", but I woul like to hear of more experiences from you.

If you need openoffice, you can use my pre-built version from http://gentooexperimental.org/~pylon/packages/

Copy it to /usr/portage/packages/All/ and install it with emerge -K openoffice

Thank you for your offer. I really appreciate it, but I want to find out where the problem is. I started a new compile without any useflags and will report the results here.

Ok, the build process finished some minutes ago.

Still almost the same problems. The only difference is that the error no longer occurs in the python UNO section but still iin the UNO section.
I copied the relevant parts below. Any ideas?

EDIT: Sorry, the second part of the output (without CFLAGS) was not complete. I changed that now.

i tried your packages and it emerged ok but when I run it it says:
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/ooqstart: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.4' not found (required by /usr/lib/openoffice/program/ooqstart)

This is a developer box so I'm not ready to upgrade to glibc 2.4 yet

I built the package with our current stable toolchain, so with glibc-2.4.

If you succeeded building OO maybe you can tell us where the secret is in getting it to build and install ;-)

BTW: Could you build a version with less dependencies (without GNOME)?

One more question: Is there a way to recompile only certain modules of OO? This would save me a lot of time with my testing.

I fail as well to build OOo-2.0.3 with CFLAGS="", it worked well with the 2 previous
versions but it doesn't seem to be enough for this one. As always the problem occurs
at installation. My error log is the same as mwallace.
A problem with libspell680lp.so at first then some more possibly because of
this first one.
An upgrade for hunspell just appeared, is it meant to help?
My current use flags for OOo are:

You are right, the hunspell update could indeed fix the problem. I'm also curious and started another compile process of OO. Will be able to report in approx. 12 h from now on.

It seems to have installed properly this time

(it was fast thanks to ccache and
I removed firefox). I will only be able to confirm it when I get physical access
to the machine tomorrow morning :wink:

(in about 12 hours).

I am suffering from exactly the same build problem; my errorlog is exactly the same. I'm now doing the hunspell upgrade and then another build; I will report in 12h as well

Great! It's working here too! OO installed without a problem

As I said: I used no CFLAGS this time. Any experiences with CFLAGS?

I noticed one problem: If I open a menu and go with the mouse over the entries, the entry that the cursor is on disappears and comes back as soon as it moves away.

No CFLAGS for me, that being said, with that hunspell fix I
may try to reintroduce some. I remember some of the install
problems with the previous versions of OOo where at the same
point.
@mwallace ->
Your menu problem is not specifically coming from OOo-2.0.3
but some other update introduced earlier. I noticed it sometime
last week on OOo-2.0.2-r2. The problem is the highlighting is
the same color as the background I think. Could be something
related to xorg-7.0.1. Don't have the problem on my x86 machine
and old OOo-2.0.1 though (I don't have enough space anymore to
build OOo on that machine.).

I didn't try java. I haven't since OOo-2.0.2 AND gcc4.1.0 , with
OOo-2.0.2 there was a problem building with java using gcc-4.1.x.
I don't know if it has been solved, fell free to give it a go and report.

with no cflags i emerged the latest python and hunspell (without java ) and it worked, also it no longer crashes when i go to save a document in a microsoft format (as it did in 2.0.3)

I managed to emerge openoffice-2.0.3 with

ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge openoffice

As for CFLAGS, I have the following in my make.conf:

CFLAGS="-O2 -pipe -mcpu=7400 -maltivec -mabi=altivec"
CHOST="powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
MAKEOPTS="-j2"

I think these are the default settings for my ibook (g4, 1.2ghz). I just accepted the default USE flags and changed LINGUAS to my needs (en, en_US).

My system is using the latest stable gcc and glibc (did an emerge -e world just a few days ago).

Font rendering seems crappy when not using anti-ailasing. It looks like it is using its own freetype library with bytecode interpreter disabled. Anyone know of a remedy?

Why did you use ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86"? openoffice-2.0.3 is already marked ppc stable. :p
