Hi list, I need help with my samba server. I have this situation:
[noteboo]-------[Switch]------[decktop]
I want connect my notebook in my gentoo descktop like when I start my descktop with WinXP. How I can do this? When my notebook start, then automatic connect to descktop shared folder.

set up the samba server and configure it to your liking with the desktopfolder - on the xp box connect to samba (add network drive) and check the box to restore the connection on booting... voila
to configure your samba u might want to take a look at ksambaplugin (emerge ksambaplugin) - it not flawless but nice to start with... _________________ To an engineer the glass is neither half full, nor half empty - it is just twice as big as it needs to be. |

Alternativelly, if you don't use KDE you can use SWAT to configure your samba server. Just enable it in xinetd (I don't recall if it's enabled by default), fire up your favorite browser, go to http://localhost:901, login as root and configure away. |
