kdm login comes up and disappears[solved ]

this is a new install with modular xorg x11
i have now mounted a seperate partition for /usr
and another partition for /usr/portage.
the adding of partitions i did after i got the system working.
after the changes the kde does not want to start... could not connect to x server.
xfce4 is working ok.
as soon as i put /usr partition the systemmap not found error comes up while booting.
the kdelibs i am re emerging hoping it will cure the kde crash
why kdm cannot survive for longertime ?
the login screen just appears and then goes off ,
stsrtkde at console gives display not connected. server refused message comes.
startxfce4 works ok it should mean x server is ok no?

any other suggestions welcome.

gave up on kdm.
installed gdm and it works ok
