That's very correct. I get the transparent window through a bug, and no I don't use elucence.
when you have virtual dekstop pane animation turned on... if you switch from one desktop to another, all windows are transparent (even the active window underneath the mouse).... you'd need to movel the mouse around to get them updated/corrected.
my terminal window happened to become transparent in this fashion and i didn't bother updating it.... then opened up a file, and experienced what i mentioned in the last post.

i'll play more with my settings... but as it stands there's a clear noticable difference in having bling on and off when working with e17.

That's a strange bug...I can't seem to reproduce it on my machine, though :(

Does anyone have a workaround for the missing rpath / gettext issue?

I read that running 'gettextize' from the source directory would fix this, so I've modified an ebuild for emodule-photo:

I worked on this for a few hours over the course of some days. It turns out that the problem is to do with automake-1.10. The e17 devs have no plans of supporting 1.10, so your best bet is to downgrade to 1.9.6-r2 and mask 1.10. Doing that has allowed me to build everything (that's not broken ;)) just fine.
The reply to my post on edevelop.org:
Quote:
There are no current plans to support automake 1.10. If you want to run autogen, then downgrade your automake. We don't track every auto* change as they make incompatble changes with pretty much every release.

Use the version the developers specify if you want it to work.

I'm afraid I may have come off as a bit snotty on that thread

This must be properly fixed so I filed a bug at https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=160557.

The bug is tied to the bling module's "enable windows in/out" option, plus the virtual desktop's pane animation.
I also get a flicker of the previous desktop, when the pane animation switch is over (that is again, if I have the "window in/out" option ticked).

I'm using e17 w/ Bling enabled w/ AIGLX and XAA on a Radeon Mobility 7500 right now, and it's pretty **** fast.

UberPinguin, why do you have AIGLX enabled?
I'm just double-checking my xorg options.... for the bling module to work, the "composite" extension should be enabled, right?
the AIGLX plays no part in here.

it's rather strange..... even scrolling down a webpage in firefox becomes jumpy and slow when i have bling module enabled... and this is with a solid firefox window (i.e. no transparency involved).
how could the bling module affect the re-drawings of a firefox window?
and this is with all the "shadow", "window in/out" and "fade opacity" options disabled in bling module configuration.

When you enable a compositor, everything goes through it, whether you've set it transparent or not. Transparency is but one feature that compositing gives you.
