|
|
I think I found a bug in the 'rox' filemanager. I chose an operation on a file that was supposed to bring up an editor, and it failed to find 'vi' on my system. I then did an emerge on 'vi', and I think it worked. I'm not at the machine now, but I think that is what happened.
I installed it with an 'emerge rox'.

I am not so sure it is a "bug", but just that 'rox' comes preconfigured to open different file types with different default apps. You should be able to change the configuration for 'rox' to use kedit for text based files, etc. _________________ "Whether you think you can or you think you can't... you're right." -- Henry Ford |

That is just the default editor that rox uses to open text files. You can have it changed to whatever you want. |

If you're new to linux I'd suggest emerge scite
Open rox and locate a textfile, rightclick it and select
File 'selected file' -> Set Run Action
In Enter a shell command box:
scite "$@"
While you're at it, locate a .mp3 file and associate it (set Run Action) for instance with xmms... Rox rocks, but needs configuring |

Oops, I screwed up the rox file manager. Is there a way to re-set the MIME type? I put in a bad program name on the "set run action", and now when I try to set it - it says I cant. I tried to set HTML files to "$1 phoenix" instead of "phoenix $1" (or something like that.

just find an .html file, right click, and choose the "Set Run Action..."
in the text field, you can specify/alter the program associated with the filetype. |

is there anyway to get it to associate with avi, mov files. I keep getting a can only associate with regular files message. Actually set run action is greyed out, but I can still click it.
Now I see it is the same for mp3 files |

I think I had this problem myself with mp3's on a network samba share, as if they were not regular files. No solution found....yet |

From the rox-users mailing list:
IIRC, there is an option within ROX that says "ignore known MIME types
that have executable bit". Enabling this will solve your problem. |
