Hi all,

I have a laptop, an external mouse and an external keyboard. Both external keyboard and mouse are PS2, so I bought a PS2->USB converter since the laptop has only 1 PS2 port.
Problem is that Gentoo is not recognizing the keyboard or mouse with converter. If I connect them to the PS2 port everything is ok but the other one which I try to use with the converter is not recognized by Gentoo and doesn't work. Not even if I do lsusb.

My intuition is that pure USB devices register themselves when they get connected but this is not happening with the mouse or keyboard since they are PS2 by default so I guess that configuration is more complex.
Any ideas on putting this to work?

EDIT: I just noticed this in the message log:
Code:
Jul 14 19:48:35 euler hub 1-0:1.0: connect-debounce failed, port 1 disabled

Cheers,

Paulo Matos

Have you tried it in Windows? Have you checked your bios?

Where I work it is hit and miss on what PS/2 keyboards will work with the adaptors. It is almost like the keyboard itself has to support being adapted to USB.

Exactly. When you buy the adapters, if you read, the device must support USB in the firstplace. They're intended as replacments for lost ones mainly I think..
