HPLIP now controls everything, hpijs is depreciated .. if your networked HP printer works under CUPSd fine, but HP Device Manager GUI no longer sees it, it's because you must NOW add a new USE variable to hplip ... +snmp!

/etc/portage/package.use

Code:

net-print/hplip ppds qt snmp

This fixed everything for me, and HP Device Manager now sees the scanner, the FLASH card reader, the FAX and the printer.
