General setup --->
[*] Support for hot-pluggable devices
Is not an optin in my menu config?
To quote the ppc manual:
Quote:
Activating Required Options
First of all, activate the use of development and experimental code/drivers. You need this, otherwise some very important code/drivers won't show up:
Code Listing 5: Selecting experimental code/drivers, General setup
Code maturity level options --->
[*] Prompt for development and/or incomplete code/drivers
General setup --->
[*] Support for hot-pluggable devices

What I have is this:
Quote:
Arrow keys navigate the menu. <Enter> selects submenus --->. Highlighted letters are │
│ hotkeys. Pressing <Y> includes, <N> excludes, <M> modularizes features. Press <Esc><Esc> │
│ to exit, <?> for Help, </> for Search. Legend: [*] built-in [ ] excluded <M> module < > │
│ module capable │
│ ┌──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐ │
│ │ () Local version - append to kernel release │ │
│ │ [ ] Automatically append version information to the version string │ │
│ │ [*] Support for paging of anonymous memory (swap) │ │
│ │ [*] System V IPC │ │
│ │ [*] POSIX Message Queues │ │
│ │ [ ] BSD Process Accounting │ │
│ │ [*] Sysctl support │ │
│ │ [ ] Auditing support │ │
│ │ [*] Kernel .config support │ │
│ │ [*] Enable access to .config through /proc/config.gz │ │
│ │ () Initramfs source file(s) │ │
│ │ [ ] Optimize for size (Look out for broken compilers!) │ │
│ │ [ ] Configure standard kernel features (for small systems) ---> │ │
│ │ │ │
│ │

I have been trying to install a very basic headless gentoo install for 2 weeks. I keep coming back to this chapter and this is bugging me.

Is this some where elce?
Should I file a bug report under documentation?

Edit I realize I have to enable the last one "Configure standard kernel features (for small systems)--->

then it has
Quote:
--- Support for hot-pluggable devices │ │
│ │ [*] Enable support for printk (NEW) │ │
│ │ [*] BUG() support (NEW) │ │
│ │ [*] Enable ELF core dumps (NEW) │ │
│ │ [*] Enable full-sized data structures for core (NEW) │ │
│ │ [*] Enable futex support (NEW) │ │
│ │ [*] Enable eventpoll support (NEW) │ │
│ │ [*] Use full shmem filesystem (NEW) │ │
│ │ (0) Function alignment (NEW) │ │
│ │ (0) Label alignment (NEW) │ │
│ │ (0) Loop alignment (NEW) │ │
│ │ (0) Jump alignment (NEW) │ │
│ │ [*] Use full SLAB allocator (NEW)

It this correct?

Also I have noticed that

Quote:
Misc devices ---> │ │
│ │ Multimedia Capabilities Port drivers --->

do not go do anything.

and there is no:

Quote:
Platform options --->
[ ] Preemptible Kernel

there is
Quote:
Platform support ---> │ │
│ │ Kernel options ---> │ │
│ │ Bus options --->

none of which seem to have [ ] Preemptible Kernel

Does this have anything to do with my keybord usb imac revb G3 not working?

No, you're just using a newer kernel than the one shipped with 2006.0.
