I just purchased an IR blaster for Mythtv but I cannot get the device to be recognized. I don't see anything new in dmesg or lspci. Is there something that needs to be done for serial devices? |

Just to clarify, 'blaster' usually refers to an IR transmitter- not something that would be used by myth directly. Are you setting up an IR receiver to change channels with a remote?
If so, you're going to need lirc, and there's a pretty good primer for using lirc with myth on the mythtv wiki: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/LIRC
Things that plug into a serial port aren't plug-and-play- you'll need to configure lirc to use a serial driver when it's built, and then configure it to access the correct serial port when it's running. |

I am using both lirc as a receiver and also another instance as a transmitter to change the channels on a STB. The error that I get when I try to modprobe the serial device is this
FATAL: Error inserting ledxmit_serial (/lib/modules/2.6.15-gentoo-r5/misc/ledxmit_serial.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)ledxmit_dev: IR
dmesg
