Hi,
Another question here... I just did a KDE-meta install off the pacage cd, so how do I start kde and make it run every time I boot gentoo? |

To start KDE from the console, just execute "startkde".
To make KDE start whenever you start X, add "exec startkde" to your ~/.xinitrc file.
To make X start on boot, execute "rc-update add xdm default" and make sure to set DISPLAYMANAGER to "kdm" in /etc/rc.conf. |

sorry to reopen this. But it seems that when I wanted to add "exec startkde" to my ~/.xinitrc file I either didn't look for it in the right place or I didn't have one. And after doing all this stuff it wouldn't boot into kde just X... and I looked later into my rc.conf and I had a bunch of gobbly gook, for example and entire file of "^@" repeated over and over... Did I do something wrong. I reinstalled from scratch to make sure attempting to emerge KDE without the -meta may have messed it up.
Could you please take me step by step through making KDE work after finishing the gentoo install detailed in the hanbdbook. Sorry for the inconvienience this might cause, but I want to figure out where I messed up.
Thanks |

And by the way what does that "XSESSION" variable in rc.conf do? |
