I was upgrading to the latest glibc and binutils patches and doing an emerge -e world.
I don't know how or why as it seems to work for others, but my system can't run emerge. I just took a peek and /var/log/emerge.log and the last thing to "supposedly" successfully emerge is zlib.
I'm guessing that the newly compiled zlib isn't playing nice with the system. Is emerge dependent on zlib at all? And if so, can someone shoot me a binary of it? Otherwise I have to format today.
Edit: I just downloaded a binary glibc and I'm back in business! _________________ Nihilism makes me smile.

Grr. I just downloaded the zlib source, took out the new LDFLAGS did a make, and then a make install.
Still no go.
I'm not sure why the system would dump immediately after emerging zlib, but a fresh compile of zlib doesn't fix it.
Fuck. _________________ Nihilism makes me smile. |

what is emerge giving out?
as I understand you could compile zlib without problems, if so have you tried revdep-rebuild, I think python has dependacy on zlib, but it is a strange thing. _________________ "I knew when an angel whispered into my ear,

I type "emerge anything" and all it says is "segmentation fault"
Someone said they ran into the same thing and had to reinstall their quickpackaged glibc.
I didn't backup glibc, so I have only myself to blame. But I saw a link for glibc binaries and I'm going to try that. _________________ Nihilism makes me smile. |
