Well let me tell you.. I have successfully used the split command to produce:

filename.ISOaaaa *through* filename.ISOaaxx *to* filename.ISOaaly

Now how do rejoin them to filename.ISO?

you could just "cat filename.ISOaaaa ..... filename.ISOaaly > filename.ISO

Just make sure you use the correct order.
