At boot I get a continious stream of messages that udev is unable to start hotplug (/sbin/udevd_start_hotplug failed or something alike), altough my system runs just fine and all the hardware is instantly recognised as wel as my portable hd when my computer is already running. How do I fix this problem? I already tried upgrading udev to its latest version (btw I get this error on both gentoo en no-sources kernel).
I can't really remember what trigger it, I think a certain update (not sure). Any advice on what I should look for or logs that I should check/post (dmesg doesn't show the errors).

What kernel are you running? What kind of hardware? The output of the following commands may help us get you on your way:
Code: | uname -a
lspci
lsusb
tail /var/log/messages
cat /proc/cpuinfo |
