For some reason on my linux box I cannot connect to steam. I have had tehm reset my password and what not and they have verified that it is still up and running, but I cannot connect. I can do it from my friends machine in the next room but when I try to connect with the right password I get this error
Code: |
Stean -- Error
Could not connect to the Steam network.
This could be due to a problem with your internet connection, or with the Steam network. Please visit www.steampowered.com for more info

I have been in contact with the Steam support people for quite some time and they dont know. My friends windows box connects to my account just fine, linux does not. I have reinstalled with no luck. Any ideas?
btw - If i type in the wrong password intentionally it will say my password is wrong so I know its at least checking my password. PLEASE any suggestions? |

What version of wine are you using? Is your tree up to date? |

i've seen this before, my only way to fix it was to exit steam, make sure wine+wineserver were not running, waiting 10 mintues or so and trying again. sometimes this happens when steam still thinks the other client is connected. _________________

That's strange...I've never had a problem in Steam for some time now. I had a problem after one Steam update, but I reinstalled it with the latest executable and it worked fine after that.
My problem has never been connecting to steam but rather getting source games to work. |
