Hi. I have a laptop with a nvidia 6600. I use nvidia module for X, everything works fine with only the LCD configured, thank you. I'm trying to set up TVOUT, but I want 2 X sessions, one for LCD (primary), and one for TVOUT, this way I can launch mplayer on the TVout using something along the line of

$ DISPLAY=":0.1" mplayer yaddayadda.avi


It does not work (obviously). My LCD flickers 3 times, then nothing appears on it (black scren). My TVOUT has what I want on it though : a 1024x768 fresh X session.
The funny part : If I tell X to use the TV as primary screen and LCD as second (by changing the ServerLayout section), I got the main X session working properly on the TV, AND a proper secondary X session on the LCD.

So how to make it work using the proper config ?

My X config with the black scren on LCD and proper X session on TV (please note my TV is in fact a DLP videoprojector, hence the name "dlp" and the funny refresh rates) :

Here's the change I make to ServerLayout to have TV as primary X session and LCD as secondary (you know, when something actually is displayed on the LCD) :

Try adding
Code:
Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "TV"
to the device section for the DFP output.

I tried that, did nothing.

And I forgot to say that there's no errors in X log, in fact everything seems fine, except the screen is black.

As far as I know, if you have two X servers running they can't go on the nvidia card at the same time using the Tv and the VGA out. One goes dark when the other one is active. If you wanna have two X servers at the same time I think you need two video cards. If you really want both screen at the same time with only one video card, then you need to run Xinerama extension or in clone mode, always under a single X server.
I'm no expert on this, but this is what I've found when going through the same problem sometime ago :roll:

Using S-Video, I get image on the TV from when I reboot. If I unplug the S-Video cable I have to plug it back in and reboot in order to get the image on the TV back.

This is using a NVIDIA FX5500 card with nvidia-kernel-1.0.8762 & nvidia-glx-1.0.8762 on an x86 system.

Perhaps it's the beamer's edid-modes messing things up. At the moment I have the following lines in the device section belonging to the tv-out settings:
