I tried the graphical installer for a while but the result was always an aborted installation or
an unbootable system.
But I didn't want to go through the manual installation process any more.
That's why I created a simple installation script for Gentoo. You can make all your
decisions and configuration in advance. It's more or less like a batch script of
the commands found in the installation docu.
Maybe it is useful for someone else.
Here is the link if you want to try it http://www.acodedb.com/download/linux/geninst.tgz _________________ Linux Tutorials

There must be a rescue system or live cd running. Then
I copy it to this system into / and make all the configuration
inside the code. Well, yes you need to check the whole script.
It will not reduce the time but you can make all configuration at once and
as soon as you are done you have "saved" the configuration.
The script will delete all data on all disks and create a standard LVM disk
layout. But of course you can change it to do anything you like.
If you have different device names, for example hd* instead of sd*, you should
search the script for 'hd' to avoid any overlooked wrong device names.
When you run the script it will ask you to confirm the execution and you have
to enter the correct date. Then it will carry out the complete installation. |

Hi all
I finished a new version of my Gentoo installation script (geninst_0.02).
The only thing to do for a standard Gentoo installation is to fill out a short configuration file and run the script.
Settings for IPaddress, hostname etc. can be made inside this file.
Important configuration files like make.conf, syslog-ng.conf etc. are provided as templates and will
be filled with the data of the configuration file.
The script is made for x86 standard installations only. It's not much more than a batch script
so that you can modify it easily according to your needs.
I also added a script for an unattended iptables installation with a default ruleset.
Prerequisite is a kernel with the necessary iptables options enabled.
Hopefully all this will help you to set up a Gentoo box in a few minutes.
You find the script and some more info here:
http://www.acodedb.com/download/linux/geninst.tgz
http://acodedb.com/94/gentoo-unattended-installation-script/
The script erases all data on all disks, so please use it with care! _________________ Linux Tutorials

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Unsupported Software. Edit: Merged to the older thread. _________________ KDE |
