This is my error:

 * samba -> start: nmbd ...                                               [ ok ]
 * Error: stopping services (see system logs)
 * samba -> stop: smbd ...                                                [ !! ]

  User ftp in passdb, but getpwnam() fails!
[2006/07/20 22:28:03, 0] smbd/server.c:main(829)
  ERROR: failed to setup guest info.

The user ftp is just some thing I was messing with - a user I decided to map my guest to. That is not the problem. The last line is where I think it jams up. Any ideas?

Try making "nobody" the guest user.
