|
|
I got me a Thinkpad T43p which has the ATI FireGL chipset.
The ati-drivers portage installs fine and loads, but I get no drm, dri, glx?
In fact GLX is now broke or missing.
$ fglrxinfo
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual!
I have already searched all over the net. It seems that for the most part reinstalling the module fixes this problem. I guess I fall into that 1% that it does not. GLX extension is still missing ;(
Anyone had this problem and actually fixed it by a means not involving the reinstallation of the fglrx module, please reply.
I'm all for the quick n dirty fix if there is one.
Thanks,
Jeff |

Did you run " eselect opengl set ati " (replace "ati" with the correct one if there's no such thing ("eselect opengl list" tells availabe OGL implementations)) after you installed the drivers? I suppose you modified xorg.conf accordingly (or run some setup program)? _________________ When Microsoft makes a product that doesn't suck, they make a vacuum cleaner. |

Yeah I did that. The problem was a stray radeonfb module file left behind kept confusing glrx.
Heh even during the time I spent troubleshooting this, I ended up with a nice clean kernel with no build errors
Ok so just to re-cap ... radeon (in-kernel) fb drivers do NOT work with ati-drivers at all.
At least not on this laptop.
vesafb and vesafb-tng both work great hi-res fbsplash and X WITH acceleration.
name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.2
server glx extensions:
<snip>
I guess its worth mentioning that I did have to re-build xorg-x11 with -dlloader in my USE flags. This process involved using the -e (emptytree) switch -- thus forcing a complete system rebuild. Only time was lost. Nothing crashed all builds completed successfully.
I have 3ddesk running native and hotkeys set up to my desktop cool n stuff while remaining stable. |

I'm assuming you use XDM/GDM/KDM. Try startx from the command line. Does glxinfo give out anyting different? _________________ TheCarNinja

You shouldn't assume.
No I startx manually all of the time.
I resolved my problem. As I stated above. |
