Hey. So i was getting tired of the simplicity (lack of media library) of XMMS so i decided to go to a more itunes-like media player--Amarok.

I've heard good things and saw an ad for the new 1.4.1 version on the KDE homepage, and i use KDE so thought "cool, i'll use this nifty K app"

so i emerge amarok and try to play its startup file to get an error "No suitable demux plugin" only problem is there's no config for input plugins in Amarok like there is in XMMS

The startup file is an ogg, so i try to play an mp3, same story "no suitable decoder found"

i read up a bit and find that "oh, Amarok uses xine"

so i re-emerge xine-lib, and ogg libs and mpeg libs and media libs out the wazzoo

still no dice

after re-emerging all of the above, as well as amarok, multiple times, i'm confused and frustrated. I'm assuming this is not supposed to happen. Is there something i'm missing for xine of amarok to make it play files?

what's the deal?

having same problem. it also happened on a kubuntu install, but they had something called "xine-extracodecs" or something of that nature, that worked. i'm still working on it here....see https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-3469792.html#3469792 as we've tried some things there too

EDIT ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did you try THIS? I haven't tried it yet, but i'm gonna tomorrow when i get back to the PC w/gentoo on it
