Hi,

last day i installed Gnome 2.2 on my new machine.
Nice to feel the performance and speed from Gneom with
a p4 3Ghz.

But, i've got a tiny problem.
How can i create a cdrom - icons to mount and unmount
on the desktop ?

I remember this feature from an older gnome version.

Is it possible ? I think so, because there is a item in the desktop
popup menu called "disks". But the item is empty.

Do i need some modifications in the fstab file ?

Can anyone helb me ?

Well, the items in the pop-up menu when you click on the desktop are the entries in your /etc/fstab which have the user mountable option.

Code:
/dev/cdroms/cdrom0      /mnt/cdrom      iso9660         noauto,ro,kudzu,user    0 0

That line gives you the option to mount cdrom, it creates an icon on your desktop and you can use it to umount the disk.

PS : if you remove the "noauto" option, cdrom is mounted automatically, and icon appears on your desktop when a cd inserted.

Yes, you have to be allowed to mount/unmount disks.
To do this you have to add "users" to the parameters list
example:
Code:
/dev/cdroms/cdrom0      /mnt/cdrom      iso9660         noauto,ro,users 0 0

You can do this with other hard disks, too

Restart gnome and the disks should be listed in the disks menu

edit: mmh, someone was faster than me :)

I can be pretty picky when i decide to setup my OS for show.
