Not sure if every Xgl question is confined to one thread, so sorry. But my question:
I try to run "Xgl :1 -ac -accel glx:pbuffer -accel xv:pbuffer" to test Xgl, my output is:
Code: | i915 DRI driver expected DDX version 1-1.5.x but got version 1.4.1
libGL warning: 3D driver returned no fbconfigs.
libGL error: InitDriver failed
libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering
_XSERVTransSocketOpenCOTSServer: Unable to open socket for inet6
_XSERVTransOpen: transport open failed for inet6/lix:1
_XSERVTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: failed to open listener for inet6
X Error of failed request: BadLength (poly request too large or internal Xlib length error)
Major opcode of failed request: 146 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 1 (X_GLXRender)
Serial number of failed request: 99
Current serial number in output stream: 100

Any thoughts? |

Sorry, figured this was a typical error.
I've an i810 card, on the 915 chipset.
I emerged xgl 0.0.1_pre20060714.
Compiz is compiz-0.0.13_pre20060719
I don't know what else you need, honestly. DRI is enabled, via the Wiki tutorial, so I know that's functional.
In the Wiki for xgl, http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_XGL, under the "Running XGL" section, this is where everything breaks, when I finally go to test it. |

Ok, the version of XGL you are using is broken, I think, and it doesn't work in my machine either, so my solution is to use xgl-0.0.1_pre20060619-r3, this one works ok in my machine and maby in your's too. |

A quick question:
The XGL has all sorts of specific things for Ati and Nvidia users...but what about Intel?
Under the "Running XGL" section, you can see how there's a section for each of the two...but...what do I do? Pray? (And as for the advice on XGL, recompiling now) |

What about this? (this is from gentoo-wiki)
Quote: | ATI and Intel (using GNOME)
Code: | #!/bin/bash
Xgl -fullscreen :1 -audit 0 -ac -br -accel glx:pbuffer -accel xv:pbuffer &
sleep 2 && DISPLAY=:1 gnome-session |
ATI and Intel (using KDE)
Code: | #!/bin/bash
Xgl -fullscreen :1 -audit 0 -ac -br -accel glx:pbuffer -accel xv:pbuffer &
sleep 2 && DISPLAY=:1 startkde |

Perhaps you should venture towards AIGLX, where performance for Intel cards is of main concern, rather than lurking in XGL where the performance is focused towards other GPUs. |

The instructions on getting AIGXL setup are outdated, though, and have left me in a terrible hole before. They're not very well written or documented, thus why I went to xgl. |

Alright. I'll write up some new documentation for you and post it up on my Site. I only recently switched to nVidia (ugh, and now XGL isn't work *at all* and no one's replied to any of my posts to try and help me) from an Intel card, and I got AIGLX working pretty smoothly then... if you have the patience, I can write up a howto for you. Would that interest ye? |
