| i emerged and i do a startx and it tells me that there were no screens found, thats probably because i dont have any video drivers installed. What happens if my video card is not supported ?? is that mean that i cant use X ? my laptop can only do 800X600 anyways. My video card is a Trident Cyberblade i7 and when i had RedHat installed it found the card no problem. |

Have you ran the XF86Config yet? According to Trident, your card is fully supported:

Be sure to look over the Desktop Configuration Guide about setting up XFree. Here is the link to that section.

| its weird because when i run startx it comes up then my monitor turns off. i tryed a million ranges, none of them work |

ok finally guessed my frequency
what i did is i set the defaultdepth to 8 and the range worked, then i ran xvidtune and it told me the Horiz Sync is 53.72 and Vert Sync is 85.14. Now if i try to change default depth to 16 or 24 then ithe monitor tuns off. If i leave it on 8 bit depth when i exit X it tells me

but it repeats this error several times with diff colors, im guessing its because it cant detect my onboard ram or something. |
