|
|
I am trying to boot up a vmware virtual machine from the 1.4RC4 "live" CDROM.
(vmware is running fine with existing virtual machine configurations, I just want to get a new one created). I cannot figure out how to get vmware to recognize my CDROM.
It is /dev/hdc (primary on the 2nd IDE cable). I tried to map to /dev/cdrom and /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 and neither is working.
Can someone give me a tip? |

I solved this.
I was trying to use an IDE CDROM and a SCSI hard disk.
In that configuration, VMware does not turn on the IDE controller. I had to:
* Turn on the IDE controller
* Configure the CDROM as primary master
in the vmware bios setup.
Then it would boot from the external, virtualized CDROM. |

I had the same problem with VMWare 4.0 during beta. In my case I had to enable legacy mode on the CDROM to get it recognized by VMWare. Most likely it's because I have a device driver loaded for my MacIntosh emulator that probably conflicts with what VMWare is looking for. |
