K, so the subject line was too short...
Anyway, I've got a gentoo box that is both a router and a webserver. Great, right? Well, there's been an odd problem that's been bothering me for a long time, and I need to fix it...
For some reason, only one ethernet card will talk DHCP. If I plug the internet connection into any of the other ethernet cards on my box and run dhcpcd, it just times out. Has anyone had any experience with this?
I'm not sure that it matters, but the main one that refuses to work is a TLAN card. It works on an internal (manually assigned) network, but not on my ISP. The other one works in other computers, but refuses to work from this one.
Thanks.
[edit]
tcpdump confirms that the card in question is sending dhcp/bootp requests (DHCP_DISCOVER) but there is no DHCP_REPLY or DHCP_OFFER received. Either the card doesn't understand them (I'd be surprised if tcpdump still didn't show anything) or my ISP doesn't like them. I've tried resetting the modem, doesn't work either. It is a very bisarre problem indeed.

Have you tried waiting a while?
My ISP requires a ~20 minute cooldown between DHCP-requests if I change the NIC. |

It's been bothering me for a long time too, and "cooldown" has nothing to do with it. |
