I just updated to modular xorg. I had to unmask nvidia to the latest version (8762) to get it to work. Then my ivtv went away. MythTV doesn't record, ivtv complains that it can't upgrade unless I am using a 2.6.17 kernel. So I change over to that kernel, but now I can't get nvidia drivers to work and I'm back to nv. It's slow and not very pretty, I'm sure you understand.

Can somebody help me get everything working again? I'd like to have ivtv running and nvidia drivers working at the same time with modular xorg, at this point I don't really care which kernel version I end up with.

I tried re-emerging nvidia-glx, since the nvidia driver site says it's kernel dependent... but I'm not sure I specified the correct kernel even doing that. I did a recompile while booted on the 17 kernel, but I don't know if that's enough.

I've also now lost sound on the 17. I could figure it out with a little tinkering (I hope), but this is quite the headache...

got everything working except for ivtv.

I've updated:
Code:
ender ~ # ivtvctl -V
 driver info:
   version = 0x00000405 (0.4.5)
   comment = (tagged release)
   cardnr = 0
   hw_flags = b1
to the kernel ivtv said it needed:
Code:
ender ~ # uname -a && ls -l /usr/src/linux
Linux ender 2.6.14-gentoo-r5 #11 PREEMPT Wed Jun 14 21:09:23 CDT 2006 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+ GNU/Linux
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 Jul 27 11:44 /usr/src/linux -> linux-2.6.17-gentoo-r4
but I get a black screen when attempting a demo record... I set the channel on sportscenter and a couple other channels just to test, but no dice.

help?

ATTN: MODERATORS-- This might could be moved to multimedia. When I created it I had more of a "desktop environment" question, but now it seems to be multimedia-confined...

I love when I do this. I'm getting good at talking to myself. The problem is resolved-- a re-emerge of mythtv and some other tweaking fixed it.
