Well, my surround sound used to work fine but within the past month or so I reinstalled gentoo... anyways...
I try to use aplay -Dsurround51 foo.wav and I get

Now, thats using the older version of alsa-utils, if I use the current version I get error 906, I'm about to try the latest .12 version. Any ideas?
I have alsa-driver for my emu10k1 (Creative Labs with LiveDrive) sound card, I've got a nice Creative 5.1 surround sound speakers n stuff too... so any suggestions? Danke

| looks good, you have turned on everything i think should be on but SB Live Analog/Digital Output Jack, try to turn it on. also the last options like Sigmatel Surround Phase Inversion Playback and Sigmatel Output Bias may be unnecessary |

i thought it could be in some amixer settings, because that's what i get (only front speakers) when i missconfigure alsa. |

Ok, I was playing around with audacious, when it selects "OSS" as the sound driver, sound works in the center/left front speaker. When I try alsa or anything else, I can get error saying "Check that you have configured your sound card properly, that you are using the correct device, (or something else I can't remember).
These are the alsa drivers, should I go back to the alsa kernel? I was hoping the drivers would get me surround sound, but alas, they didn't. Any suggestions?

alsa-drivers afaik are for those not runnig 2.6 kernel series, if you're with 2.6.x, you should stick to the kernel drivers.

I did as suggested.. went back to the alsa kernel modules n stuff.. and wala.. my computer refuses to boot 
Workign on fixing the whole Unknown symbols n such errors.. recompiling the kernel atm with the new gentoo-r4 version...
Lez see what happens...

unknowm symbols in modules are often caused by loading the improper modules for the current kernel. just do

make mrproper
make && make modules_install
|
but before this, unmerge alsa-drivers and backup your .config |
