Hi,
When I use my gnome terminal now, some applications get stroppy with errors such as "type gnome unknown" when I try to ssh into solaris
tcsh: No entry for terminal type "gnome"
tcsh: using dumb terminal settings.
staru1_61_%
staru1_61_% pine
Terminal type "gnome", is unknown.
Or this for another application;
Can't find entry for gnome in /usr/local/lib/sm/termcap
Does any one known why this has been broken with the upgrade and how I fix it!
Cheers

Ok, I've found I can get a terminal to act like a proper terminal by using;
(TERM=xterm; <command>)
so how do I set this to be the default behavior?

Just so you know I have same trouble... not sure what broke it...and still looking for a fix / found one.
Add
in your ~/.tcshrc file
PS: your title is misleading... gnome-terminal is problem. xterm works fine (for me at least), and from what you said you too. _________________ "May God stands between you and harm in all the empty places where you must walk" - Babylon 5 |

This has been a long standing issue with gnome-term (and many other terms). Most terminals claim to be Xterm since lots of applications recognise Xterm, but unfortunately few of those terminals actually support all the features of Xterm. This can lead to weird and unexpected breakage. Gnome-term has been "fixed" so that it no longer tries to claim to be Xterm (which it isn't), we just need to fix all the apps whcih don't recognise gnome-term now. |
