Hello there,

I am using the latest XFree-4.3.0-r2. I've got an annoying problem with those animated themes for X11 mouse icons.

Sometimes my mouse cursor keeps blinking very fast. It is not really a problem, it's just... annoying enough to make me want beat down my screen. It blinks at random times and it will stop blinking... randomly.

I am not sure if it's coming from Xfree or from the theme used (the Silver, Gold, and BlueGlass themes found on kde-look.org) so if any of you got similar experiences... let me know please.

If someone has such a theme working perfectly with Xfree-4.3.0-r1, I guess I will degrade because the icons are really awesome.

Yeah I get this with the latest nvidia drivers. I've switched back to the old black icon. I find it blinks for about 5 seconds followed by about 17 seconds on normal and then blinks again. weird.

Yeah, it's exactly what I get!
Going to dig around nvidia driver configuration options or, at the worst, degrade to 4191.
I will let you know if I find anything.

Looks like I solved it.
Add this to your XF86Config:

Code:

Option      "HWCursor"    "false"

lol ... It's hardly a fix if you have to disable the hardware accelerated cursor. But thanks for the tip all the same, it does stop the blinking on the desktop, but I have another problem where some apps the cursor blinks like mad with HWCursor = false.

Well personally I did not notice any change by switching HWCursor on/off. Not like it ate some FPS.
I don't have any apps where it blinks, what ones are you referring to?
